At least once in a while, everyone should try their best to do something useful that will contribute to saving our environment. In this article we suggest a simple, yet very creative way to help our environment, especially the goal of limiting paper waste. We give you twelve creative ideas to reuse toilet paper rolls once they are empty.

  1. Desk Organizer

If your office supplies are in a mess and you often cannot find what you need when you need it, then this organizer is just for you. You’ll need:

  • 24 toilet paper tubes (or as many as you think would fit all of your office supplies);
  • Spray paint (in a desired color)
  • Glue

First, spray the tubes with your desired color and then glue them together as in the image above. Finally, glue them to a piece of cardboard and organize your pens, pencils, scissors, and other office supplies in them.

  1. Organize Your Cords

Empty toilet paper rolls can also help you organize your cords. Simply put them in a toilet paper tube and decorate it as you like. You can use decorative adhesive tape as in the image.

  1. Make a Simple Gift Container

Take some toilet paper tubes, lots of decorative paper and ribbons in color, and let your imagination guide you. You can use these unique gift containers for presents like jewelry, or any small-sized ones.

  1. Toy Car Garage

If you’re constantly tripping over your child’s toy cars, it is high time you got them organized and neat. Toilet paper tubes will help you with that. You’ll need

  • as many toilet paper rolls you have
  • a large cardboard box
  • Glue
  • Some paint or decorative paper
  • Marker pen

Decorate the box and glue all toilet paper rolls together. Next, glue the toilet rolls to the inside of the box and write ‘Toy Car Garage’ or anything your child wishes on the top of it.

  1. Bird Feeder

Hungry birds will be very thankful! To make bird feeders you’ll need:

  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Double stick tape or glue
  • Colorful paper, or crepe or tissue paper
  • Some string for hanging
  • Peanut butter
  • Birdseed

Take the roll and decorate its bottom rib. Attach the crepe paper using a double stick tape to avoid mess and wasting time for drying. Make holes in top and insert string. Using a knife, smear some peanut butter on the tube and sprinkle some bird seed over it. Hang it on a tree and hope that you’ll feed some hungry birds.

  1. Organize Your Yarn

Another useful thing for which toilet paper rolls can serve is keeping yarn in one place. Simply wrap your yarn around a tube and keep it neat.

  1. Organize Your Scarves

If you’re a scarf fan, here’s a great way to organize your scarves by using toilet paper rolls. Just roll them up, place them inside the rolls, and keep these rolls in a drawer. This way, it will be easier for you to find the one you need right away.

  1. Paper Lanterns

Use toilet paper rolls to create simple, beautiful paper lanterns. You’ll need:

  • Toilet paper roll
  • Scissors
  • Acrylic paint
  • Pencil
  • Paint brush
  • Glue
  • Wire for hanging

First, cut the tube open vertically and then cut it in half horizontally as shown in the image. Next, cut 2 inches off of the tube. Paint the inside yellow to make it look like it’s glowing from the inside and use a desired color for the outside. Allow it to dry, and then fold in half horizontally. Make small evenly spaced cuts beginning on the fold to ¼ inch from the open edge. Glue the lantern closed and squash down a bit to shape it. Use floral wire 20 for the handle.
