Maintaining good health is undoubtedly everyone’s priority, especially in a world where infections and diseases are lurking from every corner. Also, as people are becoming more and more aware of how conventional drugs can have numerous negative effects on their wellbeing, they are turning to alternative ways to help them prevent and treat their health issues instead.

For this reason, we made a list of eight health tips and tricks, which will help you deal with some common health ailments.

Although you might find the following tricks somewhat weird, you will learn that they are in fact very effective.

Here’s the list:

8 Weird Health Tips and Tricks

  1. Use Your Tongue To Clear A Stuffy Nose

A stuffy nose can be very uncomfortable, but this simple trick will help you to effectively clear out your nasal passages and bring relief.

Push your tongue flat against the roof of your mouth, and simultaneously apply pressure between your eyebrows using your finger. Hold it for at least 20 seconds and then release. Once you let go, you will feel how your sinuses start to drain into the back of your throat, bringing you relief and enabling you to breathe easily.

  1. Cure Toothaches Using an Ice Pack

Whenever you feel like you’re going to have a toothache, immediately grab an ice pack and put it on the back of one of your hands. Start rubbing the area between your thumb and index finger with the ice pack. By doing this, you will shift the focus of your body on this sensation rather than the toothache, and your previous ache will disappear.

If this doesn’t work for you, you can try clove oil instead.

  1. Sore Throat Relief

Apart from the usual sore throat relief treatment that includes many cups of warm tea and honey, you can always try the following easy tricks to treat this issue.

Prepare a saline solution by combining half a cup of hot water with a tablespoon of sea salt, and gargle with it every few hours. This will help you destroy the harmful bacteria efficiently.

Even though the saline solution can help soothe an itchy throat too, scratching your ear is yet another weird trick found to be useful in this particular case. According to Scott Schaffer, M.D., president of an ear, nose and throat specialty center in Gibbsboro, New Jersey, this trick can help relieve a persistent itchy throat. As he explained for Men’s health, “When the nerves in the ear are stimulated, it creates a reflex in the throat that can cause a muscle spasm. This spasm relieves the tickle.”

  1. Treat Nervousness

If you’re one of those people who are susceptible to experiencing butterflies in their stomach, then this simple trick will come in handy.

You might find it surprising, but blowing on your thumb will help you calm yourself and relax completely. By doing this, you concentrate on your breathing, which results in calming the vagus nerve and slowing down the heart rate.

The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve, which has the widest distribution in the body because it passes through the neck and thorax to the abdomen.

  1. Calm Your Nerves

When you’re stressed out, wash your face with ice-cold water as you hold your breath. Thus, you will stimulate the “mammalian diving reflex,” which helps your body use oxygen optimally, making you feel much more energized.

In addition, the cold also contracts your muscles, so when they start to warm up again, they relax completely and provide a calming sensation.

You can achieve a similar effect by sipping on cold water or having a cold shower.

  1. Easily Prevent Burn Scars

There’s a simple trick to prevent the formation of scars due to 1st-degree burning that involves nothing but your fingers. Next time you get burned, just press the pads of your fingers directly on the area that got burnt. By doing this, you’ll delay your body’s homeostasis process and prevent the formation of blisters. Moreover, you will aid in the natural healing process of your skin and prevent the formation of scars.

  1. Overcome Your Fear of Needles

If you’re scared of needles, next time you’re doing a blood test use this simple tip to overcome your fear. While the nurse is inserting the needle, you should start coughing. This will take your mind off the needle, helping you “survive” the process. However, please inform the nurse of your intention beforehand, so as to make sure she doesn’t miss her target.

  1. Get Rid of Headaches Instantly

You don’t have to use painkillers anymore, because this easy trick will provide you with an instant headache relief.  Whenever you’re experiencing a headache, use your left thumb and middle finger to apply pressure to the area between your right thumb and index finger. Hold it for about 2 minutes and do the same on the other hand as well.

The area between your thumb and index finger is an acupressure point that is stimulated in order to provide tension relief and promote blood flow.
