Turmeric-Coconut Bedtime Drink for Better Sleep and Digestion
Digestive issues and trouble sleeping are some of the most common ailments of people today. Fortunately, the following turmeric drink is a delicious solution to both these issues.
Turmeric – The Main Ingredient
Turmeric, the main ingredient of this beverage, is a popular Indian spice used in the preparation of curry. This bright yellow spice has potent medicinal properties, making it extremely beneficial for your health and well-being.
Due to its strong properties, this spice is used widely to make medicine and to help in the treatment of various health conditions, including issues with the liver, jaundice, stomachache, diarrhea, intestinal gas, heartburn, and arthritis.
Thanks to its beneficial effects, some cultures even have a tradition of consuming turmeric beverage right before going to bed.
Apparently, this spice doesn’t cease to surprise us with its wide range of benefits. Besides its ability to help treat all the above health issues, this spice can also treat digestive issues and trouble sleeping. Therefore, if you’re experiencing any issues with your digestion or you find it hard to fall asleep, we recommend consuming the following drink. It addresses both problems at the same time, relieving your digestive troubles and helping you fall asleep soundly.
Healing Turmeric-Coconut Drink
- 2 cups coconut milk
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1-inch piece of ginger (sliced)
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper (it boosts the absorption of turmeric)
- organic, raw honey (optional: if you like your drink sweet)
Combine all the above ingredients (except honey) in a saucepan, and heat over medium heat.
Once it starts bubbling, reduce the heat and simmer for at least 5 minutes.
When your beverage is ready, remove the ginger using a strainer, and add honey if you like it sweet.
These ingredients make 2 servings, so you can share this beneficial drink with someone else too.
Making a Mixture of Spices for Future Use
You can also keep a mixture of the required spices in a jar and simply use some of it whenever you want to prepare a fresh dose of this beverage.
Here’s what you should do:
- Combine 3 tablespoons of turmeric, 2 teaspoons of black pepper, and 1 tablespoon of ginger powder in a small, clean jar. Close the jar and shake to mix the ingredients well.
- Whenever you want to prepare the bedtime beverage, simply add 1 teaspoon of the mixture to a cup of coconut milk, and stir well to combine.
